Well, let me tell ya ’bout this place, Anthology of Millis, sounds fancy, huh? But it’s just a place for old folks, ya know, like me. They call it “senior living” or some such thing. I ain’t no fancy writer or nothin’, so I’m just gonna tell it like it is, the way I see it.
First off, it’s in Millis, Mass-a-chew-setts, or somethin’ like that. Hard to say, even harder to spell! Anyways, it’s out there somewhere. They got this “Independent Livin’” thing, which just means you get your own little place, I guess. No one’s tellin’ ya when to go to bed or what to eat, which is good, ’cause I ain’t listenin’ to nobody at my age!
My friend, well, not really a friend, more like someone I see around, her mom’s there. Says her mom’s happy as a clam. Made all sorts of new friends, which is nice, I reckon. At my age, most folks I know are… well, they ain’t around no more, if ya catch my drift. This place, they got these young kids comin’ in, students they call ’em, volunteers or somethin’. My friend’s mom, she used to be a teacher, so she likes seein’ the young’uns, keeps her feelin’ young, I s’pose.
They got all sorts of stuff there, or so they say. I ain’t seen it myself, mind ya. But they got this “Assisted Livin’” too, for folks who need a little help, ya know, with bathin’ and dressin’ and such. And then there’s this “Memory Care” place, for folks who forget things. Lord knows, I forget things too, but I ain’t that bad… yet.

Now, how much does it cost? That’s the million-dollar question, ain’t it? They say “estimated costs start at…” but they don’t give ya a straight answer. Probably costs a pretty penny, I’d bet. Nothin’s cheap these days, ‘specially not fancy places for old folks. But if you got the money, and ya wanna be around other old folks, and ya need a little help, or maybe a lot of help, then maybe this place is for ya.
I heard tell they got pictures and prices online, and reviews too. People writin’ about their experiences, good and bad. You can read ’em if ya want, but take it with a grain of salt, ya know? Everyone’s different, what one person likes, another might hate. It’s like that with everythin’ in life, from husbands to breakfast cereals.
They got a phone number you can call too. If you’re really interested, I guess ya could call ’em up and ask ’em all your questions. They’ll probably give ya the sales pitch, tell ya how wonderful it is. But don’t let ’em fool ya, do your homework, ask around, see if it’s really all it’s cracked up to be.
They also got an address, somethin’ about Dover Road. If you’re in the area, maybe ya could drive by, take a look. See if the place looks nice, if the people look happy. That’s the best way to tell, ain’t it? Forget all the fancy words and the brochures, just look with your own two eyes.
So, that’s about all I know about Anthology of Millis. It’s a place for old folks, some independent, some needin’ help, some forgettin’ things. It’s in Massachusetts, it costs money, and it might be a good place, or it might not. Ya gotta figure that out for yourself. Me? I’m doin’ just fine on my own, thank ya very much. But if the time comes when I can’t take care of myself no more, well, maybe I’ll think about it. Maybe.
But for now, I’m gonna stick to my own little place, where I can do what I want, when I want. And that’s the truth, plain and simple, just like me.
