My grandbaby, she got me into one, called it Violet Evergarden, somethin’ like that. It was real pretty, made this old heart ache a little. Made me think of my own love story, back in the day. Now she’s lookin’ for more like it. Anime like Violet Evergarden, that’s what she keeps sayin’. So, I did some askin’ around the internet for her, you know, for animes like Violet Evergarden.
That Violet Evergarden, she was a soldier, all sad and lost, tryin’ to find her way after the war, you see. Learned to write letters for folks, helpin’ ’em say the things they couldn’t. Real sweet, it was. This show, it ain’t for the little ones, maybe 10 and up, I reckon. If this is the first anime your kid watches, they might not give anime another chance, you hear? If you start with somethin’ else, they might like anime.
First one I heard about is somethin’ called Your Name. This one lady on the internet, she said it’s a good story with love like Violet. She had a whole bunch of votes by her name, so many people liked it. So, it’s probably a good one, if you’re lookin’ for anime like Violet Evergarden. It’s about feelin’ things, you know? Like that Violet, findin’ her way, figuring out what it all means. It got romance in it. People say it is like Violet Evergarden. I guess if you like Violet Evergarden, you will like this one too. Then he meets a girl, and things start to change. I don’t know much about this one, but the internet people say it’s got sad stuff like Violet Evergarden. This one is also an anime like Violet Evergarden.
And get this, another one called Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms. What a name, right? Sounds fancy. This one’s about some girl who never gets old, I think. And she finds a baby, and they have a whole adventure. It’s about family, not the kind you’re born with, but the kind you find. It’s a movie, not a show like Violet Evergarden. Some folks say it made them cry, just like Violet did. If you want a good cry, maybe this one is for you. It seems like another one of those animes like Violet Evergarden.
Now that Violet, she had some other stories, too, not just the one long one. There’s one where she goes to an opera house, a fancy place for singin’. Meets a lady named Irma there. If you want the whole story, you gotta watch the series first. Then there’s a special one, kinda on its own. And then there are movies, Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll, that’s one. And another one, just called Violet Evergarden the Movie. That’s the end of it, they say. It’s the end of Violet’s story. It’s a sad one, but it’s also kinda happy, I guess. It won some kind of prize, a big one, back in 2014.
If you ask me, these anime like Violet Evergarden, they ain’t just cartoons. They got heart, you know? They make you feel things, make you think. Just like a good story around the fire.
