Okay, so I’ve been on this huge sci-fi kick lately, right? And obviously, “Three-Body Problem” is, like, the show everyone’s talking about. But once I binged that, I needed more. So I went on a mission to find shows that give off similar vibes. Here’s how my deep dive went down:
The Hunt Begins
First, I just started with good ol’ Google. I typed in stuff like “shows like Three-Body Problem” and “sci-fi shows with big ideas.” You know, the basic stuff. This gave me a bunch of articles and lists, which was a good starting point, but kinda overwhelming.
Getting Specific
I realized I needed to figure out what I loved about “Three-Body Problem.” Was it the hard sci-fi? The complex characters? The sense of impending doom? Turns out, it was a bit of everything. So I started refining my searches. I started adding things like “hard sci-fi tv series” and “shows with alien contact” to narrow things down.

Reddit to the Rescue (Mostly)
Next, I hit up Reddit. Because where else do you go for super-passionate, sometimes overly-opinionated recommendations? I found some subreddits dedicated to sci-fi shows and asked for suggestions. Got a ton of replies. Some were helpful, some were…not so much. Let’s just say I learned a lot about what I didn’t want to watch, too.
My Watchlist Experiment
I made a big list of all the shows that seemed promising. Some names that kept popping up were:
- The Expanse: Everyone kept saying this was a must-watch, so I gave it a shot.
- Dark: This one’s more mind-bending time travel, but it definitely had that “big mystery” feel.
- Foundation: Based on Asimov’s books, so I figured it would have some serious sci-fi cred.
- Battlestar GalacticaPeople said this was epic, and they aren’t wrong.
Trial and Error (and Some Binging)
Then came the fun part – watching! I started with “The Expanse,” and honestly, I was hooked. It’s got that gritty, realistic feel, with political intrigue and awesome space battles. “Dark” was crazy complicated, but in a good way. I had to draw diagrams to keep track of everything! “Foundation” looks amazing, and I liked the big-picture scope. “Battlestar Galactica” is another win for sure, I’m still working on this one.
My Current Verdict
So far, “The Expanse” is probably the closest in terms of overall vibe to “Three-Body Problem,” at least for me. But “Dark” definitely scratches that itch for a complex, mind-blowing story. And, “Battlestar Galactica” is just, well, it’s a classic. My quest continues, though! Always on the lookout for the next great sci-fi obsession.
