Okay, so I’ve been on this HUGE King Arthur kick lately. The Guy Ritchie movie, you know? I watched it, like, three times in a row. And then I needed more. So, I started digging around for movies that gave me that same kind of vibe. It wasn’t easy, I tell you!
First Attempts – A Bit of a Flop
I started with the obvious stuff, you know, other Arthurian movies. I tried that one with Clive Owen, King Arthur (the 2004 one). It was… okay. A bit too serious, maybe? Didn’t have that fun, action-packed energy I was looking for. Then I tried some older ones, like Excalibur. Visually impressive, sure, but a little slow for my taste. I ended up fast-forwarding some parts. Oops.
Digging Deeper – Finding Some Gold
Then I realized I needed to think outside the box. It wasn’t just about King Arthur, it was about that feeling. The gritty action, the camaraderie, the underdog story. So I started searching for movies with similar elements.

I thought about what I really liked about the Guy Ritchie King Arthur:
- Fast-paced action: Lots of fighting, chases, and general mayhem.
- A band of brothers: A group of guys working together, looking out for each other.
- A reluctant hero: Someone who doesn’t want power, but ends up with it anyway.
- Some fantasy elements: magic and that.
I started googling stuff like “action movies with a group of heroes” and “fantasy movies with sword fights” – super basic, I know. Then read some Reddit threads. Got some good ideas.
The Final List – My Recommendations!
So, after all that searching and watching (and some skipping), here’s what I came up with. These movies aren’t exactly the same as King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, but they definitely scratched that itch for me:
- The Lord of the Rings trilogy: Okay, this is a classic, and I felt a bit stupid for not thinking of it sooner. Epic battles, a fellowship of heroes, and some great bad guys. It fit.
- 300: Super stylized, lots of slow-motion fighting. Very gritty, and a tiny group of warriors fighting a way bigger army, It’s great.
- Gladiator: Another classic. This one has the “reluctant hero” thing down pat, and the fight scenes are awesome.
- Robin Hood: Prince of ThievesThis had that ‘band of Merry Men’ feel.
So, yeah, that’s my journey. It took some trial and error, but I finally found some movies that gave me that King Arthur fix. If you’ve got any other suggestions, let me know! I’m always up for a good action flick.
