Okay, so I’ve been on this quest to find movies similar to “The Usual Suspects.” You know, that mind-bending, twisty kind of film that keeps you guessing until the very end. I started by just thinking about what I loved about “The Usual Suspects” in the first place.
- The unreliable narrator.
- The twist ending, obviously.
- The clever plot construction.
- The feeling of being totally played.
I figured the best place to start was with the director, the film,release date. I wrote down the information.
Search Begin:
So, I typed “films like the usual suspects” into Google. I scrolled through a bunch of these, picking out ones that seemed promising based on the descriptions. I didn’t want anything too obvious, though.
I made notes to myself while reading those blogs.
I cross-referenced some of the titles on different sites. I use Letterboxd. I check Letterboxd to see how other movie fans have. That gives me a little extra confidence (or sometimes warns me away!).
It was a bit of a rabbit hole, to be honest. One movie would lead to another, and then I’d find some obscure film mentioned in a forum that sounded perfect. I probably spent a good couple of hours just digging around, building my list. The more I dig, the more excited I get.
Finally, I have a pretty solid list of the movies I need to check out to satisfy my current obsession. And the feeling is so nice.
