Okay, so I’ve been on a serious “Homeland” kick lately. Like, serious. Finished the whole thing, and now there’s this giant, Carrie Mathison-shaped hole in my TV-watching life. So, I went on a mission to find something similar. I figured other people probably felt the same way, and the internet didn’t let me down. I want to share what I did, start to finish.
Digging for Clues (aka Googling)
First, I started with the obvious. I fired up Google and typed in “tv shows similar to homeland”. I was hit with a load of list articles. I hate those “25 Best Shows…” things. It gives me so many options that I ended up feeling more lost. I want quality over quantity.
Refining the Search
Then I thought, what is it I really loved about “Homeland”? It was more than just spies. It had that awesome, complicated female lead, the political intrigue, and the constant “what’s gonna happen next?!” feeling. So I tried some searches with that angle.

I refined the search with more like that, such as “spy thrillers with strong female leads”.
Narrowing Down the Options
After some more intense googling I got a couple of names which I’d never heard of. I cross referenced them with my streaming services and found a match!
- Check the ratings: I took a peek at the ratings, just to see what the general opinion was. I don’t totally trust those numbers, but it’s a good starting point.
- Read some reviews: I skimmed a few reviews, trying to avoid spoilers. I just wanted to get a feel for the show’s vibe.
The Trial Run
I ended up starting with the show with a decent balance of good ratings, interesting reviews, and that “Homeland” feeling. I watched the first episode… then the second… and, well, I was hooked!
So, that’s how I handled my post-“Homeland” blues. It took a little digging, a little patience, and a willingness to try something new.
