Okay, so I’m a huge fan of “Maleficent.” That dark, twisted fairy tale vibe? Love it. So, naturally, I wanted more movies like it. I embarked on a quest, a cinematic journey, if you will, to find similar films.
First, I grabbed my laptop and opened up my go-to movie site. I simply typed “movies like Maleficent” into the search bar. Pretty basic, right? The results? A whole bunch of stuff, some relevant, some… not so much.
My Method
I started by making a list. I jotted down every title that seemed even remotely close. I ended up with a pretty long, unwieldy list.

- Lots of Disney movies popped up, which made sense.
- Some fantasy films I’d never heard of.
- Even a few horror movies (which I quickly scratched off – not my thing!).
Then, I started digging deeper. I looked at trailers, read some reviews, and tried to get a feel for each movie’s vibe. Was it dark and atmospheric? Did it have a strong female lead? Was there a fairy tale element, maybe with a twist? These were my criteria.
I used keywords such as “dark fantasy,””retelling,””fairytale,””witch,”.This helped narrow it down.
After watching some trailers, I made a list. It was a process of elimination, really. I watched a few that didn’t quite hit the mark, but that’s okay. It’s all part of the fun, right?
Finally, I settled on a handful of movies that I felt really captured the essence of “Maleficent.” It will be great to watch!
