Okay, so I’ve been on this HUGE musical kick lately, and “La La Land” just blew me away. I wanted MORE, you know? So, I started digging, trying to find other movies that gave me that same feeling. Here’s how I went about it:
My “La La Land”-Like Movie Quest
First, I made a quick list, like, what exactly did I love about “La La Land”?
- The music, obviously! Those catchy tunes and big dance numbers.
- The romance. That bittersweet, “almost-but-not-quite” kind of love story.
- The dream chasing. The struggle of artists trying to make it.
- That vintage and color style.
Got it. Now, time to hit the web!

I started simple, just using search and type “movies similar to La La Land”. I got basic, recommendations. I watched some trailers on my pad, read a few reviews, that kind of thing. I tried to refine my search with the list I mentioned above. I added some more keywords like “musicals”, “romantic dramas”, and “classic Hollywood vibe”.
After watching some trailers, I decided to dive into a few that looked promising:
- “Singin’ in the Rain” (1952) It is a classic for a reason. All Singing and dancing, a real treat!
- “West Side Story” (1961) Another classic. That music,I love it.
- “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg” (1964) I did the reserch, someone on forums saying it is an inspiration of the La La Land, and I watched it. Absolutely worthy.
- “An American in Paris” (1951) The dance in this, are just so good!
I’ve made it my mission to watch all of these over the next few weeks. I’ll keep you guys posted on how it goes! Maybe I’ll even discover some hidden gems along the way. If you’ve got any other suggestions, let me know! I’m always up for a good movie night.
