Okay, so I’ve been on this huge kick lately trying to find shows that scratch that same itch that Ancient Aliens does. You know, that blend of mystery, history, and “what if?” speculation. It’s a surprisingly specific vibe, and just diving into any old documentary doesn’t always cut it. So, I started digging, and man, did I go down a rabbit hole!
First, I re-watched Ancient Aliens itself. I wanted a baseline, you know? I made a note about the things I really liked. The unexplained mysteries, ancient sites and the “what about the aliens” question. I needed to see it fresh to compare other shows to.
Then I moved on to a few others that I’ve heard the similar topic with it.
- America Unearthed: It is kind like a treasure hunt and a history. It’s all about investigating mysteries and artifacts found in America.
- The UnXplained:Hosted by William Shatner, Covers a wide range of mysterious phenomena, not just ancient mysteries. It has broader scope than just focusing on ancient astronauts.
I watched a few episodes of each, making notes as I went. What worked? What didn’t? Did they give me that same sense of wonder and make me question everything I thought I knew?
Then I started using different way to find the new ones.
I used to think a lot and have now come up with some key words to search for shows similar to this one.
- Ancient mysteries: A general term that covers a lot of ground.
- Alternative history: This is key, because it suggests a departure from mainstream historical narratives.
- Unexplained phenomena:A broader category, but it can lead you to shows that touch on similar themes.
- Pseudoarcheology:It is a more academic term, but it might lead you to some interesting critical perspectives.
