Okay, so I’ve been seeing this John Dutton brown cowboy hat everywhere lately, and I gotta say, I was intrigued. I’m not normally a hat person, but there’s something about that rugged, classic look that just got to me. So, I decided to give it a shot and try to find one for myself. This is how it all went down.
The Hunt Begins
First things first, I needed to figure out exactly what kind of hat this was. I did some digging online, you know, just browsing around. Turns out, it’s a pretty popular style. I looked at a bunch of pictures and it became a bit clearer. I needed somthing with high-quality felt.
The Shopping Spree (or Not)
- Attempt 1: The Local Western Store. I figured, “Hey, I’ll start local!” So I went to this western wear store downtown. They had a ton of hats, but nothing that really matched that John Dutton vibe. Lots of straw hats, some really flashy ones, but not the simple, classic brown one I was after. Strike one.
- Attempt 2: The Big-Box Retailer. I thought, “Okay, maybe a bigger store will have more options.” Nope. Plenty of baseball caps, beanies, even a few fedoras, but no cowboy hats that fit the bill. It was all cheap-feeling stuff anyway.
- Attempt 3: Online…Finally. I was getting a little frustrated at this point. I should have just started online! I spent a good chunk of time scrolling, reading reviews, and comparing pictures. It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest. There are SO many options out there.
Found the thing
I finally found a couple of hats that looked promising. One was a bit more expensive, but it looked like it was made of really good quality felt. The other was cheaper, but I was worried it might look, well, cheap. I decided to splurge a little and go for the nicer one. Gotta treat myself sometimes, right?

I went ahead with an order and waited a few days.
The Verdict
The hat arrived! I ripped open that box like a kid on Christmas morning. And…it was perfect! The felt was nice and sturdy, the color was just right, and it fit like a glove. I put it on, looked in the mirror, and yeah, I felt pretty darn cool. I started wearing it with a jacket I own and it match pretty well.
It’s definitely a statement piece, and I’m still getting used to wearing it, but I’m really digging it. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start wearing it out and about. It’s a fun little project, and it definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone a bit. And hey, if John Dutton can rock it, why not me?
