Okay, so I’ve been on this HUGE kick lately trying to find shows that give me the same vibe as “The Mentalist.” You know, that clever, slightly quirky consultant helping the police solve crimes with their amazing observation skills? Yeah, that’s my jam.
So, I started by just Googling stuff like, “shows similar to The Mentalist,” “crime shows with a consultant,” you get the idea. Pretty basic, right? I got a bunch of the usual suspects – “Castle,” “Psych,” “Lie to Me” – shows I’d either already seen or knew a bit about.
I decided I wanted something maybe a bit less mainstream, so I dug a little deeper. I started hitting up Reddit forums, specifically subreddits dedicated to TV shows and crime dramas. This is where things got interesting.
- I found some people recommending “Perception,” which is about a neuropsychiatrist who helps the FBI. Sounds cool, I added it to my list.
- Another one that popped up was”Endeavour,” which is a prequel to a British show called “Inspector Morse”.
Apparently, it’s all about a young detective with great deduction skills.
British shows can be hit or miss for me, but I was intrigued.
Then I did the totally obvious, I watched some of these shows and I made notes. I started to jot down what elements I was liking and what I was not. It helped to be aware of what aspect was getting my attention.
I realized I was really drawn to the “unconventional consultant” aspect, the person who sees things differently than the regular cops. And, if I’m honest, a little bit of witty banter is always a plus.
My Current Watchlist
So, based on my, uh, extensive research (lots of Googling and forum-lurking), here’s what I’m currently working my way through:
- Perception: It’s pretty good! The lead character is definitely eccentric, and the cases are interesting.
- Endeavour: I am having to adjust to the British style, but the mysteries are very well-crafted.
- Monk: It is a fun classic show with good plots.
It’s a journey, guys. Finding the perfect “Mentalist” replacement is serious business. But I’m having fun with it. It’s all about the thrill of the chase, and the pleasure is mine. Wish me lucky!
