Okay, so I’ve been on this HUGE action-comedy kick lately, right? And it all started with the “Lethal Weapon” movies. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, the best buddy-cop duo ever! But, I binged all those, and I needed more. So, I started digging, trying to find other shows that gave me that same fun, explosive vibe.

The Quest Begins…

First, I just straight-up started by using a search engine, typing in stuff like “TV shows similar to Lethal Weapon” I spent a decent half an hour on this.

I used a search engine, like a lot of others did. It was the easiest. I’m writing all my experiences down below, hopefully, it helps you too!

What Makes a Show “Lethal Weapon-y”?

I realized I needed to figure out what I loved about “Lethal Weapon” before I could find good alternatives. For me, it boiled down to these things:

  • Buddy-cop dynamic: Two totally different personalities forced to work together. One’s usually a loose cannon, the other’s by-the-book.
  • Action-packed: Lots of explosions, car chases, fight scenes – the works!
  • Comedy mixed in: It can’t be all serious. Gotta have some laughs to balance out the danger.
  • A bit of heart: Underneath all the craziness, there’s usually some genuine friendship and loyalty.

The Deep Dive & What works

I spent ages and ages on this! Looking through all the shows. I checked it all, I started by jotting down any show that got mentioned more than once. I spent the last few hours looking into it all, here’s my own experience on what I did to do that, I got the shows that way!

  • Looked for the setting:
    • It had to be a similar setting to Lethal Weapon, Cop shows and cop movies mainly!
  • Dynamic:
    • Look for the similar dynamic, two people, working together even when it’s hard!

It took a few good hours! But, it was so worth the work, and time, I got the best of the best recommendations that way, perfect! Exactly what I wanted.
