Okay, so today I decided to mess around with creating a little story using just character names, “Tom Bird” and “Lorna Eldridge.” I wasn’t really sure where I was going with it, but sometimes it’s fun to just start and see what happens, right?
Getting Started
First, I just jotted down the names on a piece of paper. Tom Bird…Lorna Eldridge… They sound kinda old-timey, maybe even a little bit mysterious. I started thinking about what kind of people they might be. Where might they live? What might they do?
Brainstorming Ideas
I started scribbling down some random ideas:
- Maybe Tom is a detective, and Lorna is a witness to a crime?
- Or, perhaps they’re neighbors in a small, quiet town?
- Could they be rivals in some way?
- I am thinking they encountered some problems.
I imagined Tom Bird as this kind of gruff, no-nonsense guy.
And Lorna Eldridge to be sharp, independent, and not easily intimidated.
Putting it Together
Then I started free-writing, just letting the words flow. I didn’t worry about making it perfect, just focused on getting the story down. It was a little messy at first, switching between different ideas.
After about an hour or so of playing with the scenario and the characters, I read it all back. It’s pretty fun playing with scenarios and words!
