Okay, so I’ve been on this huge horror kick lately, and you know, everyone and their mother has been yelling at me to listen to The Magnus Archives. And yeah, yeah, it’s good. Like, really good. But I devoured it. Finished it. Now I’m just sitting here, staring at my podcast app, feeling empty inside. What’s a girl to do?

So, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. My mission: find podcasts that capture that same creepy, mysterious, kinda unsettling vibe that The Magnus Archives has. I mean, I want stories that’ll make me sleep with the lights on, you know?

First, I hit up all the usual spots. You know, Reddit, those “Top 10 Horror Podcasts” lists that pop up everywhere, and even asked around in a few Discord servers. I jotted down every single recommendation that sounded remotely interesting. My list got pretty long, pretty fast.

Then came the hard part – actually listening to these things. I started with the ones that were mentioned the most. I spent a few days pretty much glued to my headphones, going through episode after episode. Some were okay, some were total duds. But I did stumble upon a few gems.

Here are some of my notes on the ones that hit the mark:

  • The NoSleep Podcast: Okay, this one’s a classic. It’s basically a bunch of horror stories narrated by different voice actors. The production quality is top-notch, and the stories range from mildly creepy to “I’m never sleeping again” levels of terrifying. I gave a couple of listens and yeah, they are kinda good.
  • Knifepoint Horror: This one is more minimalist. It’s usually just one narrator telling a story, but man, can they spin a yarn. It’s the kind of horror that creeps up on you slowly, and then BAM! You’re scared out of your wits. I think I listened to just one episode and I was kinda hooked.
  • The Black Tapes: This one’s got that serialized format that I love, it is like those found-footage type movies. It follows a journalist investigating this paranormal researcher’s “Black Tapes” – basically cases he couldn’t solve. It’s got a really cool, mysterious vibe, and I was hooked from the first episode. I binged this one like crazy.
  • Old Gods of Appalachia: Now this is a special one, the settings and lore are great. It’s like a blend of history, folk horror, and that good ol’ Lovecraftian dread. The storytelling is phenomenal, and the world they’ve built is so rich and detailed. I listened to all of the episodes.

It took a while, but I finally put together a solid list of podcasts that give me that same Magnus Archives fix. It’s a mix of anthology shows, serialized stories, and everything in between. Now, whenever I’m in the mood for a good scare, I’ve got plenty of options to choose from. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. Now I have a solid list of stuff to listen to. And hey, maybe my little experiment will help some other poor soul who’s lost in the podcast wilderness after finishing The Magnus Archives.
