Okay, so yesterday I was scrolling through my Letterboxd, trying to find something to watch. You know how it is, so many choices, but nothing really grabs you. I stumbled upon this movie, “Five Feet Apart,” and the plot sounded interesting, so I gave it a go. Man, it was a real tearjerker! It’s about these two teens, Stella and Will, who both have cystic fibrosis. They meet at the hospital and, well, you can guess what happens—they fall for each other. But here’s the kicker: they have to stay six feet apart at all times because of their condition. Heartbreaking, right?
So, after I finished sobbing my eyes out, I thought, “I need more movies like this!” I started doing some digging around the internet, trying to find similar films. I figured I’d check out some streaming services, and also maybe see what other people on Letterboxd were recommending. I spent a good few hours going through lists and reviews.
My Search Strategy
- First, I used the “similar to” feature on a few streaming websites. I typed in “Five Feet Apart” and waited to see what popped up.
- Then, I went back to Letterboxd and looked at user-created lists. People make lists for all sorts of things, so I figured there had to be some for “sad romance movies” or something like that.
- After that, I just went on a general web search, typing in things like “movies similar to Five Feet Apart” and “romantic movies with a twist.”
It took a while, but I managed to compile a pretty decent list of movies that seem to fit the bill. Some have similar themes of illness and star-crossed love, while others just have that same emotional intensity that I was looking for. I even made notes about which streaming services have them, so I know where to watch them. I also jotted down some key plot points to remind myself why I added them to my list in the first place.
Now, I have a whole bunch of movies to watch, and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s nice to have a list ready to go for when I’m in the mood for a good cry. I’m planning to watch them all over the next few weeks, and maybe even write some reviews on Letterboxd myself. It’s always fun to share my thoughts on movies and see what other people think. Who knows, maybe I’ll even discover some new favorites!
