Alright, folks, let’s talk about my recent “Goodbye Earth” adventure. I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty hyped for this one. A Korean sci-fi about an asteroid heading straight for us? Sign me up! I got my snacks, got comfy on the couch, and dived right in.
So, the story kicks off in this city called Woongcheon. It’s the year 2025, and everyone’s chilling until news breaks about this asteroid. Turns out, it’s gonna hit us in 200 days, and Korea is basically ground zero. Talk about a bad day, right?
Getting into the Chaos
I started watching, and the first few episodes really set the scene. People are freaking out, as you’d expect. Some are trying to flee, some are praying, and some are just straight-up looting. It’s chaos, but it felt kinda real. I mean, if an asteroid was really coming, I bet it would be just like this.
Then there’s this teacher, Se-kyung. She’s trying to keep her students safe, which I thought was pretty cool. She becomes like this protector, and I was rooting for her from the get-go. She’s got this friend, In-ah, who’s also helping out, and they team up to rescue these kids from some shady training center. That part was intense! They finally get the kids out in episode 8, and I was like, “Yes! Finally some good news!”
Oh, and there’s this guy, Yoon-sang. He’s a scientist, and he’s trying to make bombs to blow up the asteroid. But he’s also dealing with his own stuff. He finds out about the asteroid and starts freaking out, but he’s not hurt or anything. He seemed like a good guy, but I didn’t see much of him. Just making bombs!
The Slow Burn
Now, here’s where things get a bit… slow. I was expecting more action, more explosions, more, you know, asteroid stuff. But it turns into this slow-burn drama. Lots of talking, lots of people just staring off into the distance. Don’t get me wrong, I like a good drama, but I felt like it was missing something. It’s like they forgot about the whole asteroid thing for a while. It felt disjointed, like they were just throwing scenes together without a real plan.
The Ending
So, we finally get to the end. There are only 52 days left, and most people are in church, singing. It was kind of peaceful, but also kind of sad. Then, Se-kyung goes to confront this gang leader at their club. She’s got a gun, and it’s this big showdown. We hear a gunshot, and that’s it. It was a let down! I expected more from the ending!
The series ends with this montage of all the people Se-kyung cares about. She’s saying goodbye, and it’s supposed to be emotional, I guess. But honestly, I didn’t feel much. I was just kind of numb at that point. And the asteroid, you ask? Well, they don’t even show it hitting. It’s like, “Oh yeah, that thing? Don’t worry about it.”
My Final Thoughts
Overall, “Goodbye Earth” was a bit of a letdown. It started strong, but it just kind of fizzled out. The characters were okay, but I didn’t really connect with any of them. And the story, well, it was all over the place. It’s like they had this great idea for a sci-fi show, but they didn’t really know what to do with it. It lacked engagement, like they were just going through the motions without any real passion.
Would I recommend it? Hmm, maybe if you’re really into slow-burn dramas and don’t mind a bit of a disjointed story. But if you’re looking for an action-packed, edge-of-your-seat sci-fi thriller, you might want to look elsewhere. In conclusion, it was forgettable. The characters were just there, and the narrative was all over the place, making it hard to really care about what was happening.
