Well, I heard the big news. Layla’s Riverside Lodge, that old place down by the river, it’s been sold! Can you believe it? Sold! That place has been there longer than I can recall. My old bones remember when it was just a little cabin. Now someone else is gonna be running it. Ain’t that somethin’?
That Layla’s Riverside Lodge, always full of folks from outta town. They come for the skiing up at Mount Snow, I reckon. Only a hop, skip, and a jump away, about 1.7 miles, as the crow flies. They say it’s a lovely lodge, right in the center of West Dover. Used to see them folks walking around town, all bundled up in their fancy ski clothes. Not like us, we just wear what’s warm, don’t care about fancy.
They used to have a lot of pictures on their website. Showed all the rooms and the river. Pretty as a picture. Lots of folks liked to stay there. Good for them, I guess. Make a living. But running a place like that? Oh honey, that’s a lot of work. Cleaning, cooking, dealing with all them people. I’m too old for that kind of hustle and bustle. I always say, don’t spend more money than needed! Just find a place to sleep and you are good to go.
I wonder who bought it? Someone with deep pockets, I bet. That place ain’t cheap. Probably gonna fix it all up, make it even fancier. Charge even more money, I wouldn’t doubt it. Times are changing, that’s for sure. Everything getting more expensive. Remember when a loaf of bread was just a nickel? Now look at it. Highway robbery, I tell ya.
Some folks say Layla’s Riverside Lodge was closed for a bit, maybe they say it is still closed. Don’t know if that’s true or not. But it’s sold now, so I guess someone’s gonna open it back up. Maybe they’ll keep the name the same. Layla’s Riverside Lodge. Has a nice ring to it, don’t it? Sounds kinda fancy, but not too fancy, you know?
I remember Layla, the one who started it. Tough old bird, she was. Worked her fingers to the bone. Built that place up from nothing. She’s probably rolling over in her grave now, knowing it’s been sold. But what can you do? Nothing lasts forever. Except maybe these old mountains. They’ve seen it all.
Here’s what I remember about that Layla’s Riverside Lodge:
- Right by the river, used to see folks fishing there.
- Close to Mount Snow, good for those skiing folks.
- Lots of rooms, always seemed full.
- Layla, she was a hard worker.
- Now it’s sold, wonder what will happen next.
Well, I gotta get back to my chores. Got laundry to hang out, and these old bones ain’t getting any younger. Just wanted to share the news about Layla’s Riverside Lodge. Big news in a small town, that’s for sure. Makes you think about how things change, doesn’t it? One day you’re here, the next you’re gone. Just like that old lodge. One owner, then another. Life goes on, I guess. Life goes on.
But that place, Layla’s Riverside Lodge, it had some good years. I remember seeing folks sitting out on the porch, drinking their coffee in the morning, watching the river flow by. Peaceful, it was. Hope the new owners keep some of that peace. This world needs more peace, that’s for sure.
I reckon the new folks will do alright. They got a good location, that’s for sure. And if they treat people right, they’ll come back. That’s how it works. Be good to folks, and they’ll be good to you. Simple as that. Just like my mama used to say. Wish them well, I do. Running a business ain’t easy. Especially not a lodge with so many rooms to clean and guests to feed. It’s harder than herding cats. That it is. Hopefully they know what they are getting into. I heard they have at least 18 photos online, and 21 reviews from guests. That place must be really something.
I’m gonna go sit on my porch now and watch the cars go by. Maybe I’ll see some of those folks heading up to the mountain. Or maybe I’ll see the new owners of Layla’s Riverside Lodge. Wonder what they’re like. Hope they’re good folks. Hope they make a go of it. This town needs a good lodge. Brings in folks, brings in money. Good for everyone. As long as they don’t raise the prices too much! We’ll see, I guess. We’ll see.
