Well, Mother’s Day, they call it in some places. Here, we just say it’s for the moms, you know? It’s a special day, like they say, for all the mothers. Every year, it’s on the same day, the 26th of May. Not like some places where it jumps around. But, you still gotta work, it ain’t no holiday where you get the day off.
So, what do we do for our moms on this day? Well, it’s all about showin’ them some love, you see? Kids, they give their moms flowers. You know, the pretty kind, from the garden, or maybe you buy ‘em from that fella down the road. Roses, I think they call ‘em, red ones, yellow ones, all sorts. And chocolates, too. The sweet kind, the ones that melt in your mouth. Kids love givin’ those, and moms, well, they like eatin’ ‘em, that’s for sure.
- Flowers are always a good choice.
- Chocolates, can’t go wrong with those.
- And those cards, the ones the little ones make.
Them little ones, they make cards, you know? With their little hands, they draw pictures, stick things on it. Sometimes they write somethin’, even if it’s just scribbles. But it don’t matter, ‘cause the moms, they keep them cards forever. They put ‘em in a box, and sometimes, they take ‘em out and look at ‘em. It reminds them of when their kids were small, I guess.
It’s a big day for gifts, too. You see all sorts of things in the stores. They got baskets, with all kinds of stuff in ‘em. Like those fancy chocolates from far away, and things for the bath, smellin’ all nice. And they got them special soaps and stuff, supposed to make you feel all relaxed and pampered. I don’t know much about that, but some folks like it. They call it Polish Mother’s Day gifts.
It ain’t always about the fancy stuff, though. Sometimes, just spendin’ time with your mom is enough. You know, sittin’ down, havin’ a cup of tea, talkin’ about things. Or maybe helpin’ her out with somethin’, around the house, or in the garden. That’s what really matters, I think. Showin’ her that you care, that you appreciate all she’s done for you. ‘Cause bein’ a mom, that ain’t easy, let me tell you. It’s hard work, raisin’ kids, lookin’ after ‘em, worryin’ about ‘em. So, they deserve a special day, all to themselves.
And it ain’t just for the young moms, neither. It’s for all the moms, the old ones, the grandmas, too. They all get celebrated on this day. ‘Cause they’re all mothers, in their own way. They’ve all raised kids, loved ‘em, and cared for ‘em. And that’s somethin’ worth celebratin’, ain’t it? They say in Poland it’s called Dzień Matki. Sounds fancy, but it’s just Mother’s Day to me.
So, this year, on the 26th of May, remember your mom. Give her a call, if you can’t be there. Send her a card, or some flowers. Or just tell her you love her. That’s the best gift of all, I reckon. And don’t forget about all the Polish mothers, too. They’ll be celebratin’ just like we are. It’s a day for all mothers, everywhere. It’s about mothers; it’s a beautiful celebration, the most beautiful one, some say.
I seen some folks gettin’ real fancy with their gifts. They go and buy all sorts of things, jewelry, clothes, even them new-fangled gadgets. But like I said, it ain’t about the money, it’s about the thought. A simple bouquet of beautiful flowers can make your mom happy. It shows that you were thinking about her, that you took the time to get her something special. And that’s what matters, more than anything.
This year, 2024 Mother’s day is on a Sunday. So, make sure you plan somethin’ nice for your mom. Take her out to eat, if she likes that. Or cook her a special meal at home. Just spend some time with her, and let her know how much you appreciate her. ‘Cause moms, they’re the backbone of the family, you know? They hold everything together. And they deserve all the love and appreciation we can give ‘em.
So there you have it, that’s what Mother’s Day is all about, as far as I can tell. It’s a day for showin’ your mom some love, for makin’ her feel special. And it ain’t just a Polish thing, it’s a worldwide thing. Everywhere you go, folks are celebratin’ their moms. And that’s a good thing, I think. ‘Cause moms, they deserve it. They really do. Remember handmade cards too, those are special. Unique and custom gifts always show you put in extra thought. So this May 26th, let’s all make it a good one for our moms.
