Alright, so listen up, y’all. I’m gonna tell you about this here Beacon 23 thing. It ain’t easy, this space stuff, but I’ll do my best to make it plain as day.
So, this Beacon 23, it’s a story, see? Happens way off in the future, in the 23rd century, they say. Imagine that! Way past my time, that’s for sure. Anyways, it’s about this fella, they call him Digger. He’s like a…well, a lighthouse keeper, but not like the ones by the sea. This here is space, see? Big and empty. And he’s stuck way out there on this thing called Beacon 23.
Now, this Digger fella, he’s got a tough job. It’s a lonely job, too. Just him and that space beacon. And let me tell you, it ain’t no picnic being out there all alone. It’s like being stuck in the middle of nowhere, only worse. ‘Cause it ain’t just empty, it’s dangerous too.
What’s this Beacon 23 all about then? Well, it’s a kind of story that gets you thinkin’. It ain’t just shoot-em-up space battles. It’s more about what happens inside a fella’s head when he’s all alone, facing the big, empty nothin’ of space. They say it’s a “psychological thriller.” Fancy words, eh? Means it messes with your head a bit.
This Digger, he ain’t right in the head all the time, see? Space does that to ya, I reckon. He starts talkin’ to rocks and stuff. Can you believe that? Talkin’ to rocks! Must be goin’ stir-crazy out there. But that’s part of the story, see? It’s about how a fella holds on to himself when he’s got nothin’ else.
Now, this story, it ain’t just one book. It started out as a bunch of short stories, all about this Beacon 23 and this Digger fella. Then, some smart fella, Hugh Howey, he put it all together in a book. They call it “Beacon 23: The Complete Novel.” And guess what? They even made it into a TV show! Can you imagine? My old TV would probably explode if I tried watchin’ somethin’ like that.
- They filmed it for TV, you know.
- First, it was gonna be on some channels called Spectrum Originals and AMC.
- But then it ended up on somethin’ called MGM+.
But here’s the kicker, they went and cancelled it! After just two seasons! Can you believe that? Folks must not have liked it as much as they thought they would. Or maybe it was just too darn complicated for some folks. I don’t know. Space stuff is tricky like that.
I heard tell there’s another show, somethin’ called The Winter King, and that got cancelled too. Happen’s all the time, I guess. These TV folks, they’re always changin’ their minds.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ different to read or watch, this Beacon 23 might be just the ticket. Just be warned, it ain’t no sunshine and roses. It’s dark and twisty, just like that space out there. But it makes you think, you know? Makes you think about what it means to be human, even when you’re way out there amongst the stars. And that talking to rocks part? Well, maybe that’s just what happens when you’re all alone, with nothin’ but the echo of your own thoughts for company. It makes a body wonder, it surely does.
To sum it up, Beacon 23 is a story ‘bout a lonely fella in space, mindin’ a beacon, and losin’ his mind a bit. It’s a space story, but it’s also a story ‘bout what goes on inside a fella’s head. It’s got thrills and chills and all that, but it’s also got a lot of heart. Or at least, that’s what I gathered from all the talk I heard about it down at the general store.
Anyways, that’s the gist of it. I ain’t no fancy book reviewer, but I hope I made some sense of it for ya. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens. They’re probably wonderin’ where I’ve been all this time, talkin’ about space and such.
