Well, let me tell ya, this whole “happy ending” thing, it’s a real head-scratcher. Folks always go on and on about it, like it’s the only thing that matters. But is it, really? I mean, life ain’t no fairy tale, is it?
What’s a Happy Ending Anyway?
Some folks think a happy ending is when the fella gets the gal, they get hitched, and pop out a bunch of kids. Live happily ever after in a big house, right? But what if that gal don’t wanna get hitched? What if she wants to travel the world, or open a pickle shop, or just sit on her porch and watch the birds? Is that not a happy ending for her?
And what about those stories where the main fella, he’s a real jerk, ya know? Mean as a snake. Treats everyone like dirt. Then, at the end, he suddenly changes his ways and everyone forgives him. Is that a happy ending? I dunno, seems kinda fishy to me. Seems like he ought to get his comeuppance, not a pat on the back.
Life and Death, That’s the Real Ending
Someone once told me, the only real ending is when you kick the bucket. That’s it. Everything else is just stuff that happens along the way. And you know what? That kinda makes sense. We’re all gonna die, that’s just the way it is. So maybe, instead of focusing on some perfect happy ending, we should just try to make the most of the time we got.
Heard this story once, about a fella and a gal, Mary and John, I think their names were. Lots of different ways their story coulda gone, but they all ended the same way – with them dead. Kinda grim, I know, but it makes ya think. Maybe the point ain’t the ending, but the journey, ya know?
Don’t Go Lookin’ Too Hard
And another thing, this always searchin’ for somethin’, always chasin’ after that happy ending…it’s like chasin’ your tail. You find one thing, you just start lookin’ for somethin’ else. Why not just be happy with what ya got? Be thankful for the good things in your life, even if it ain’t perfect.
- Appreciate the small things.
- Don’t dwell on what you don’t have.
- Be kind to others.
Heroes and Villains, They All Gotta End Somewheres
I like them stories with heroes and villains, good guys and bad guys. But even the heroes, they can’t always have a perfect happy ending. Sometimes they lose, sometimes they make mistakes. Sometimes they gotta make tough choices, and those choices don’t always lead to sunshine and roses. And that’s okay. That’s life.
Happy for Now, Maybe That’s Enough
Heard some folks talkin’ ’bout “happy for now” endings. Maybe that’s the ticket. Maybe we don’t need this big, grand happy ending. Maybe just bein’ happy for a little while, that’s enough. Enjoy the good times when they come, and don’t sweat the bad times too much. They’ll pass, just like everything else.
So, What’s the Answer?
I ain’t got all the answers, that’s for sure. But I reckon this whole happy ending thing, it’s different for everyone. What makes one person happy might not make another person happy. And maybe, just maybe, the real happy ending is just livin’ a good life, bein’ a good person, and leavin’ the world a little bit better than you found it.
It’s Your Story
At the end of the day, it’s your story. You get to decide what makes you happy. Don’t let nobody tell you different. You wanna be a pickle farmer? Go be a pickle farmer. You wanna travel the world? Go travel the world. You just wanna sit on your porch and watch the birds? Well, you go right ahead and do that too. Your life, your ending. You get to choose. And that, to me, that sounds like a pretty good ending, happy or not.
Just remember, be good to folks, try your best, and don’t worry too much about what other people think. That’s my advice, for what it’s worth.
