Reviewing Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget – A Spirited Sequel with Big Action

Well now, if you ain’t heard about the new movie Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, let me tell ya, it’s somethin’! They done gone and made a second one to that old movie from way back when, Chicken Run. Ain’t nobody thought they’d be makin’ a sequel after all these years, but here it is, and it sure brings a lot of things together—some good and some, well, not so much.

Now, if you remember the first movie, it was all about them chickens tryin’ to escape from that dreadful farm where they was stuck. A real tough situation, let me tell ya. And now, here in this new one, we got more of the same—chickens plannin’ and fightin’ for their freedom, all while they tryin’ to save themselves from the wicked hands of their captors. It’s a wild ride, with lots of action, and the chickens are more determined than ever to make it out alive. But there’s a twist, see, ’cause this time it’s not just about runnin’ away, it’s about protectin’ a big ol’ secret—this big ol’ nugget that’s mighty important. That’s where the name comes in, I reckon.

Now, about the chickens themselves, they’re back with their same ol’ personalities, but they’ve grown a bit. Ginger, that brave and smart chicken from the first movie, she’s got herself a family now, and she’s leadin’ them on a new mission to stop some evil doings. And don’t forget about Rocky, the rooster who was once just lookin’ out for himself—he’s still around, and he’s got a lot of heart. They’re just tryin’ to save their own hides, but they sure got themselves into some mighty big trouble. Thandiwe Newton, now, she’s one of the new voices, and she gives her character a lot of spunk, though I reckon I’ll always remember the original folks who did the voices for these characters.

The animation? Oh, it’s as cute as a button, just like the first one. Them stop-motion animations always take a lot of time and effort, but you can see it in every scene. The little details, the way them chickens flap their wings or wiggle their feathers, it’s all done just right. But the real charm comes from them little bits of humor they sprinkle in there. Now, the British humor might go over some folks’ heads, but for those of us who appreciate a good ol’ laugh, it sure brings a smile to your face.

That bein’ said, I gotta be honest, the story itself ain’t quite as strong as the first one. It’s like when you make a big ol’ pot of stew, and you’re tryin’ to make it just like your mama used to, but it don’t quite taste the same. Still good, mind you, but not as rich. It feels like they’re tryin’ to squeeze a bit more outta somethin’ that was already perfect. Some parts just don’t have the same punch, and it ain’t as funny as I thought it’d be. But, well, it still has its moments, and if you’re lookin’ for a family movie that’s a bit of an adventure, this one fits the bill.

Now, one thing I do gotta say about this here movie is that it sure knows how to keep ya on the edge of your seat. Even though the story ain’t as strong as it could be, it still has plenty of action and chase scenes. And lord, if you ain’t watchin’ the chickens scramble around, you’re gonna miss out on some real fun! The plot may be a little predictable, but the action keeps it fresh. Ain’t nothing too fancy, but there’s plenty of room for excitement.

Some folks might say this sequel ain’t necessary, and I can’t rightly argue with that. It’s been a good long while since the first movie, and there ain’t many people out there askin’ for more of these chickens, I suppose. But for folks like me, who remember the good ol’ days of Chicken Run, it’s a nice little trip down memory lane. You get to see the old characters again, and even though the magic ain’t quite the same, it’s still a fun watch.

So, if you’re lookin’ for a movie to take the grandkids to or somethin’ the whole family can sit down and enjoy, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget ain’t a bad choice. It’s got heart, it’s got action, and it’s got them chickens back at it again. But I reckon it ain’t gonna win any big awards or nothin’. Still, it’s worth watchin’, especially if you liked the first one. Just don’t expect too much, and you might be surprised how much fun it still brings.
